Hello, for my 20th(!!!) post I thought I would shed some light on one of my favorite things in life, writing. Writing has always been my favorite subject of school, a hobby, and one of my favorite ways of expression. Though I love writing, AP Lang Q2’s aren’t necessarily what I had in mind when I say I love to write.
Journaling has always been my favorite way to put everything that’s going on in my mind on paper. I’m no stranger to journals, for sake of this post and my humility I was able to dig up a few journals from my past

me writing about my dog, doodle, who “I love so so so so cute.”
This seemed to be a trend of mine, writing in the first few pages of my childhood diaries and then abandoning them. Though, in the past few years I’ve been able to get a good grip on what journaling styles work for me and what doesn’t. (a reminder: journaling looks different to everyone, this is just what works best for me)
Though, in recent months I’ve gotten into a habit of making journaling apart of my daily routine. Personally, I like dividing up my journals by categories. This helps my brain to feel organized and also my writing to be intentional. Below are my 6 different journals.
- devotional journal
- daily journal
- 5 yr q&a’s a day
- art journal / joys and craps
- http://www.faithanneb.co
- Planner
Realistically, I only write in 4/6 of these daily, but I consider them all daily journals because I can go to them anytime, anywhere to write anything (in that category of course).
I’m going to go on a brief run down of each of my journals to explain them more.
My devotional journal is what I use to write notes in church, bible studies, and quite times spent with the Lord. I like keeping this separate from everything else so I can keep track of my journey and not have to bring in a journal to church filled with everything else.
My daily journal is what a typical journal would look like. I use this to jot down notes, school things, shopping lists, bfbeads orders, blog posts ideas, and other things I feel I should remember. I carry this with me in my purse and backpack just so I always have it. I start a new daily journal every year so I just started a new one from Riffle Paper Co.
My 5 year q&a journal is something I got my sister for Christmas years ago and recently discovered she wasn’t using it so I decided to take it over. There is a question a day that you answer on the same day every year for 5 years. I love this and I think it’s such a great way to see your life and how you grow within the 5 years.
My art journal or my joys and craps diary is something I started after this summer and my multiple attempts to keeping up with a bullet journal. My art journal is basically a space where I have every day written down and I have space to write my joys and craps of the day. I also fill it with photos, tickets, and other things that go with the days events. Currently running on only a few more pages left so on the look out for a new one.
I mean, I don’t really know what this blog is and I’m in the process of figuring out what I am hoping from this but I like to know that it’s here and that someone other than me is reading and hopefully gaining something from it.
MY PLANNER!! I use this baby too much. Mine is from ban.do and it’s me in a planner, I love it. I use this for pretty much everything and it’s becoming more of a daily journal, especially on the days where I don’t have school or breaks, I use the space to write what I want to do and what I did.
6 journals sounds crazy, though to me essential. Finding the form of journaling that works best for you isn’t an over the night thing and will definitely take time to get used to. I sometimes even forget to write in the one I’ve been using for a year straight. To get your solid style of journalling you have to just try one out and see if it sticks. I used to have a dream journal and I sometimes use it but for about two months straight, I wrote down every dream I had. Now I just text them to Megan when I wake up but if that style of journaling works for you, then go for it!!
Realistically, there is no ideal style of journaling, but once you find something that works for you and your life, writer or not, a journal is so great to be apart of your life. I can’t wait to look back at my journals through the years and remember those times in my life.
Here’s to getting stuff done and writing sh*t down. Happy 2018, make this your year!!
