As we get older it seems like we’re missing out on more. More hangouts we weren’t invited to, more group messages we weren’t added into, and more adventures we don’t experience. Though most times we miss experiences because of others, a lot of times we miss out because of ourselves. But like we skip songs in our playlists, is it that easy to skip portions of our lives?
Recently everyone has been talking about the “awkward middle school faze” that our current generation missed out on. I’m no newbie to the middle school faze, but I loved that time of my life. Instead of constant worry about my appearance I just simply lived. I had some of the best friends and most fun times.
Often now I try and skip over parts of my life that may be hard or uncomfortable for me, or times that I just don’t want to remember. But those times aren’t made to be skipped over. They may be tough and hard but times like that make us who we are. A few months ago I was in a really bad place and I wasn’t happy, I tried to just pretend happiness and fake myself into feeling good. Nothing changed until I accepted that I needed to work though it and I truly discovered my happiness.
Skipping over the rough times seems much easier in the moment, but as life continues, you’ll be grateful that then you took the time to understand your emotions and grow from it.
